The breakdown ahead of the season’s finale at Newcastle on Sunday (3pm) is that we need a point to secure second place in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s draw at Manchester City means City can no longer catch us and we’re two points ahead of Arsenal with a better goal difference of plus-13. Arsenal host Villa on Sunday.

First though, thoughts on the 2-1 loss as we succumbed to Steven Davis goals in each half after Heung-Min Son opened the scoring in the 16th minute.

“I don’t think you can judge our season on this game,” said Eric. “It’s been a tough last couple of weeks with the draws against West Brom and Chelsea  and I think that hurt us mentally.

“We tried to pick ourselves up and started well but it was the same story where we’ve got ahead and ended up drawing or losing. It’s something we’re going to have look at and fix next season.

“In the meantime, we’ll pick ourselves up and look to get the right result at Newcastle next weekend.

“Our fans have been amazing and it’s a great chance to give them something to smile about because we’re disappointed we couldn’t do that here today.

“We want to go to Newcastle and win.”

Eric also spoke about the lap of appreciation after the game. “It was a really nice moment and this is the beginning of a good relationship between us and the fans.”
