Mauricio Pochettino relished the winning feeling against Inter Milan.

The players did it in style, as well.

Lining up against the Serie A giants in our final pre-season friendly of the summer, the team looked sharp, hungry and deadly in front of goal as we ran out 6-1 winners.

Our international players were fully back in the fold and left their mark in front of our impressive Norwegian fanbase at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadion.

Harry Kane opened the scoring, Inter levelled but Erik Lamela fired us back in front with a cracker before the break.

We went into overdrive in the second half. Dele Alli made it 3-1, Kane lashed home for 4-1, Vincent Janssen slotted home the fifth and Shayon Harrison capped it all with his first senior goal on the mainstream stage.

“It was important to finish our pre-season in a very positive way and important to win,” said Mauricio. “It was the first time the players involved in the Euros played and it was fantastic to see them all together.

“Now we have another week to prepare for the game against Everton and we will arrive ready to compete.”

On what was most pleasing

“All of it! It’s true we need to analyse the game and improve in certain areas but I’m pleased with everything, very happy. The performance was good but in football, you can’t stop, you have to try to improve every day.”

On not getting carried away by 6-1

“I think it’s always important to get the feeling of a win. We played well in Australia but lost in the end and it’s important in your mind to get a victory. Now, next Saturday, it’s reality with a big test at the start of the season at Everton but we will arrive ready to compete.”

On Shayon Harrison

“He’s a striker who has come through the Academy and it’s important to develop our young players in the Academy. I’m very happy with them, the performances of players like Harry Winks, Cameron (Carter-Vickers), we need to keep that level, that energy and play the way we played today.”

On more experience for youngsters

“This was a great experience for them, so was Australia. This is part of our philosophy and for that, the supporters feel very proud of the team. I think it’s clear we have our philosophy, something special and different to other teams.”
