West Ham 1-0 Spurs - Mauricio's verdict

Posted on 2 March 2016  - 23:30

Mauricio Pochettino was left to rue our first half display as we slipped to a rare away defeat at West Ham on Wednesday night.

Our final match at Upton Park ended in disappointment as Michail Antonio’s early header proved the difference between the teams.

A scrappy affair with few clear-cut chances, the result put an end to our six-game winning streak in the Premier League and marked our first away defeat in the league since the opening day of the season.

Harry Kane went close twice in an improved second half display but the equaliser proved elusive on a night to quickly forget.

“We made some mistakes in the first half and we’re disappointed about that because it was difficult for us to be in the game and difficult for us to play the way we want to play,” reflected Mauricio.

“I thought we played better in the second half, managed the game better and created chances but if you don’t score, it’s difficult to take anything positive out of the game.

“We were poor in the first half and that’s why we all feel disappointed. It’s also true that we needed to be better from the beginning as we also conceded an early goal against Swansea. That is something we need to improve and change in the next games.

“It’s important now to focus on the next game, we need to be ready for another derby and to make sure we arrive in the best condition on Saturday.”

Next up it’s the big one, the North London Derby against Arsenal at the Lane on Saturday (12.45pm).
