Ryan Mason, Erik Lamela and an own goal wrapped up a 3-0 win in the second leg at the Lane as we completed a 4-1 victory on aggregate in the Europa League Round of 32.
Fiorentina arrived in N17 on a run of six unbeaten domestically to stand third in Serie A but were eventually ground down by the team’s outstanding fitness levels.
Ryan scored the key opener on 25 minutes, Erik gave us a two-goal cushion on 63 and Gonzalo Rodriguez could do little but turn Kieran Trippier’s fine cross into his own net nine minutes from time with Dele Alli ready to tap home.
“I’m very proud of the players,” said Mauricio. “It was a very good performance and a good job done.
“We created a lot of chances and didn’t concede chances ourselves and when you are playing a team that is right at the top in Italy, that’s full credit to our players.
“The fitness levels are fantastic and we showed great energy, willingness and always tried to press Fiorentina.
“This is a very good team but after this second leg we showed we were better and fully deserved to go into the next round.”
There were words of praise from Mauricio for Ryan, who captained the team in Florence last week before scoring that vital opener - his first European goal.
Mauricio added: “Ryan is very important for us, an unbelievable professional and unbelievable player. It’s great to see him score again.”
The draw for the Round of 16 takes place at 12noon tomorrow...
