We completely controlled the first half, breezed into a 2-0 lead thanks to Heung-Min Son’s well-taken double and should have put the game beyond reach of the home side.
But it stayed at 2-0 and boosted by a couple of substitutions, Middlesbrough rallied. Ben Gibson replied on 65 minutes driven on by their fans, Boro found new energy levels.
Thankully we remained solid defensively - Boro only had two shots on target - and we secured a deserved victory, stretching our unbeaten start to six matches.

We also racked up 19 efforts at goal - that is 82 efforts at goal in our last three matches!
“We were fantastic in the first half and it’s a shame we only scored twice,” said Mauricio. “We have to learn, we need to be more aggressive and clinical and improve our percentage in front of goal.
“If that doesn’t happen then the second half can be difficult to manage. You always allow the possibility of the opponent scoring a goal and then you can suffer. But I’m happy with the victory, we fully deserved the win after the 90 minutes and I’m very pleased for everyone.”
What was said at HT?
Mauricio: “You always try to fix some things. We wanted to follow in the same way in the second hald but be more aggressive, more focused. I’m not so happy in the second half because we lost that half 1-0, but we need to look forward, improve and learn.”

On Sonny’s goals
Mauricio: “It’s fantastic for us and of course, for him. He scored twice, gave us the three points and that’s important. But it’s a collective effort and that’s always most important for us. We need that mentality.”
On our six-match unbeaten start
Mauricio: “I’m pleased with that but it’s never enough. Now we’re thinking about Moscow.”
On the fans
Mauricio made a point of applauding our travelling supporters, walking half-way across the pitch after the final whistle to says ‘thanks’. “Like always when we play away, they deserve us to say thank-you. The effort to come to Middlesbrough was fantastic and it’s important to show our love.”
