Kitchee SC 1-4 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction

Fri 26 May 2017, 16:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino quickly turned the focus onto the fans after bowing out of an outstanding season in style against Kitchee SC in Hong Kong on Friday.

Heung-Min Son thrilled the home supporters with a classic opening goal with further strikes from Vincent Janssen, Harry Kane and Kazaiah Sterling securing a comfortable 4-1 win against the Hong Kong champions. It may well have been more but for the agility of home goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng.

However, even Mauricio conceded this night wasn’t about the result. It was about the 28,000 fans who turned up to watch their heroes at the Hong Kong National Stadium.

“The most important thing was to share this time with all our fans and to try to enjoy the game – to be honest, the result wasn't important,” said Mauricio.

“What was important was all our fans here in Hong Kong enjoyed watching the team and this was a fantastic moment we've had here.

“Of course, we're professional and we always show respect to the opponent, that's important.

“But then the most important thing is the image we translate to our fans because that is something they can keep forever. The fans are amazing and we thank them all for their support.”
