When did we last use our third goalkeeper?

Wed 08 November 2017, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Paulo Gazzaniga’s appearance against Crystal Palace means we’ve used three goalkeepers in one season for the first time since 2012-13.

The last time our number three stopper was called upon was when we visited Carlisle United in the third round of the League Cup in September, 2012.

With Hugo Lloris having arrived just weeks earlier from Lyon, Brad Friedel was still first-choice.

But rather than deploy Hugo, who had made his debut for us in the Europa League against Lazio the previous week, for our trip to Carlisle, manager Andre Villas-Boas opted for Carlo Cudicini, who had slipped down the pecking order.

Always reliable for us when called upon, Carlo kept a clean sheet at Brunton Park as we won 3-0 in what would turn out to be his final appearance in our colours. He left us midway through that season for LA Galaxy.

Argentine stopper Paulo, meanwhile, became the 15th goalkeeper to play for us in the Premier League against Palace on Sunday, joining Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm, Brad Friedel, Heurelho Gomes, Carlo Cudicini, Ben Alnwick, Paul Robinson, Kasey Keller, Radek Cerny, Neil Sullivan, Ian Walker, Espen Baarden, Hans Segers and Erik Thorstvedt.
