Former Norwegian international Oyvind Leonhardsen has followed the fortunes of Christian Eriksen for some time – and he believes he’s always been a difference-maker on the pitch.

Danish midfielder Christian is about to start out on his fourth season at the club following his transfer from Dutch giants Ajax in 2013, where he came up through the ranks and established himself as one of the brightest stars to come out of Scandinavia in the modern era.

His performances at the Eredivisie club caught the eye of our ex-midfielder Oyvind, who had retired from playing by then having previously scored 11 goals for us in 72 appearances between 1999 and 2002, and he’s made a point of keeping tabs on Christian’s progress from his base in Norway ever since.

“He’s a great player,” said Oyvind (pictured, below) of 24-year-old Christian who, along with the rest of our squad, is preparing for Friday’s final pre-season friendly against Inter Milan in the Norwegian capital of Oslo.

“As a Scandinavian I know a bit about him and his talents. I saw him at Ajax – I actually went to see them in training so I have watched Christian closely and, for me, it’s really good to see young players coming up from Scandinavia.

“He’s obviously a creative player as all Spurs fans know. I saw him in his first game for Denmark and you could see then that he’s the guy who plays the passes and makes the difference.

“At Spurs you have good players around him so you can finish the game, but he can be the creator. He’s a very talented individual.”

Tickets for this Friday’s game in Oslo – where Oyvind also plied his trade as captain of Lyn between 2004 and 2005 – are available here. Kick-off is at 5pm local time (4pm UK).
