We caught up with this year’s new arrivals to find out about their plans for the festive period and how they’ve celebrated in the past. Today, Vincent Janssen…

VINCENT JANSSEN

National team: Netherlands.
Previous clubs: Almere City, AZ Alkmaar.

What will you do on Christmas Day?
My family is coming over from Holland so we will have a nice day, play some games, watch some movies and spend some quality time together. My big sister is getting married on December 23 so she and her husband will be away on honeymoon but my mum, dad, little brother, little sister and her boyfriend will all be coming to London.

How does this differ from past Christmases for you?
For the last four or five years I’ve been to Spain over Christmas with my family. Obviously we have a two-week break in the Dutch football calendar where we don’t play so I normally go with my family to Malaga. To be honest the weather is quite good, even for this time of year. We can swim in the pool and I think we’ve maybe only known three days of rain in four or five years of going there!

What is traditional at Christmas in Holland?
On December 5, the night before Saint Nicholas Day, we have ‘Sinterklass’, a guy who comes from Spain to Holland to bring presents. You leave a sock, shoe or bag outside your door and when you wake up the following morning it’s been filled with presents. You normally get your bigger presents in this way on December 5 and then exchange maybe some smaller gifts on December 25. We start Christmas properly on Christmas Eve and then we have two Christmas Days, the first one on December 25 and then ‘Tweede Kerstdag’ – second Christmas Day – on December 26. Both days are spent relaxing with family, having dinner and playing games. In our house, we exchange presents on December 25 as my little brother can’t wait for day two!

What is your favourite festive meal?
A nice roast. My mother and father usually go out a couple of days before Christmas to buy all the ingredients and they both cook a lovely dinner on Christmas Day.

What do you wish for at Christmas?
To score some goals in the Premier League to help the team – that would be very nice! Also just to spend some quality time with my family.

What was your most memorable gift as a child?
As I said before, you normally get the best presents from Sinterklaas on December 5. I think my best one was a PlayStation.

Earlier this week, Victor Wanyama and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou were in the hot seat. Tomorrow we’ll hear from Pau Lopez…
