Language is no barrier for Foyth and Sanchez

Fri 08 December 2017, 08:58|Tottenham Hotspur

Juan Foyth revealed he and Davinson Sanchez spoke Spanish throughout Wednesday’s victory over APOEL.

The South American pair teamed up at centre-half for the first time as we rounded off our UEFA Champions League Group H campaign with a 3-0 win at Wembley.

Summer signings from Estudiantes and Ajax respectively, Argentinian youth international Juan and Colombian star Davinson are both making good progress at learning English around their busy training schedules at Hotspur Way.

But with clear and constant communication needed between central defenders during games, Juan said the pair opted to switch to Spanish for 90 minutes against the Cypriot side.

“It’s really good to play next to Davinson because we speak Spanish and we can communicate more easily,” he said.

“It’s just a bit easier for us at the moment. We are learning English but with Davinson, I speak Spanish on the pitch for now.

“Davinson is a very good guy, a good friend here at Spurs and I know he is a talented player.

“You can see all the games he’s played so far – he plays very well, he is so strong, very fast and, for me, he is a brilliant player.”
