The South Korean international attacker, who joined us from German side Bayer Leverkusen last summer and has so far made 34 appearances in our colours, collected the prize at a special ceremony at The Grosvenor House in London this evening (Friday, April 8).
The Asian Awards are the only pan-Asian, pan-sector awards in the world and celebrate outstanding achievement by people from across the Asian international community in all walks of life including business, sport, the arts and public service.
Individuals born in, or with direct family origins in Asia are eligible for nomination, with Jackie Chan, Sachin Tendulkar, Kamui Kobayashi and Sir Ben Kingsley among those to have been recognised previously.
“It is an honour for me to be recognised at the Asian Awards," said Sonny, 23. "I still have to learn more and perform better on the pitch but I’m very grateful for this award. My fans, who always support me, and the club have helped to make this happen and my previous teams and colleagues also helped me a lot.
"Going forward, I will keep working hard to put on my best performances on the pitch.”
