Victor Wanyama has already made an impression on Harry Winks.

The summer signing from Southampton stepped out in our colours in public for the first time in Australia as we took on Juventus and Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup this week.

Like Victor, Harry, 20, is a central midfield grafter and the pair operated alongside each other for a spell in both games Down Under.

Indeed, they started together against Atletico on Friday and, for Harry, the chance to play alongside the Kenyan international captain and learn from him at close quarters was a particularly valuable one.

“Victor is brilliant, a top guy as well,” said Harry, who has played for us in the Europa League in recent seasons. “He helps me out a lot, he’s always talking to me and giving me advice on what I need to do.

“Playing alongside him in midfield is brilliant because he’s like a big brother figure in there.”

Reflecting on our matches in Melbourne, Harry was quick to praise our supporters. There was a tremendous turnout from OzSpurs, our official Supporters’ Club in the region, and they were joined by fans from further afield – some of whom jetted half-way around the globe to see us in action.

“I’ve loved the week,” added Harry. “For me it was a great experience. The fans are brilliant and some have travelled all the way out from England – that’s different class.

“We’ve got top fans and all the lads appreciate their support.”
