The hard-working 24-year-old capped off a fine 2015-16 campaign by helping Argentina reach the Copa America Final last month, playing in every game including their eventual penalty shootout defeat to Chile.
Having enjoyed a few weeks’ holiday since then, Erik checked back in at Hotspur Way feeling refreshed and emphasised that he’s ready to give his all once again in a bid to help us have another memorable season.
“I am happy to be here again, happy to see my team-mates and I am ready to work,” he said. “I really like to work hard and this team likes to do the same.
“In the beginning it’s a little bit hard because I stopped for the holidays but it’s normal. I think in one week I will be ready but for now I will keep working step by step.
“We all worked so hard last season and this season we want to be ready again.”
While the former Roma and River Plate star has been away, our squad has been strengthened with the arrivals of midfielder Victor Wanyama and striker Vincent Janssen.
Erik was quick to welcome them upon his return this week and emphasised how he believes they can both play key roles in 2016-17.
“Yes, I’ve seen them and I said ‘welcome to the Club!’” he added. “They are ready to work, they are motivated to be here and I wish them all the best.
“I think they will be very important because we have a very good team and with them we will be better. I will help them in everything if they need me.”
