2016-17 in numbers - high-scoring wins

Tue 30 May 2017, 12:51|Tottenham Hotspur

Our 7-1 win at Hull City on the last day of the 2016-17 campaign was our best-ever away win.

We'd registered seven goals or more on 30 previous occasions in league and cup action – amazingly, every single one was at White Hart Lane.

In fact, we broke our away win record in the Premier League twice in the space of four days!

The 6-1 win at Leicester City toppled the previous bests of 5-1 at Hull (August, 2009) and Bournemouth (September, 2015) and 4-0 wins at Villa (December, 2012), Newcastle (February, 2014) and Stoke (April, 2016 and August, 2016).

We last scored seven or more in the 9-1 win in the Premier League against Wigan in November, 2009, when Jermain Defoe scored five goals. That remains our biggest margin of victory in a top-flight match since joining the Football League in 1908.

Since joining the Football League, we have now notched seven goals or more in a game on 21 occasions, 10 times in the old First Division, eight in the Second Division and three times in the Premier League – the 9-1 against Wigan, 7-2 against Southampton (March, 2000) and now 7-1 at Hull.

In addition, we can claim seven or more in a further 10 cup matches – six in the FA Cup, three in European competition plus one in the Football League Cup.

Listed below are all 31 instances of our having netted seven or more goals in a match – all were at home until last Sunday!
