Clive Allen is hoping for good news today when the doctors assess the extent of the Achilles injury that forced Dean Marney off in Wednesday's reserve encounter at Fulham.
The midfielder, who was filling in at right back, withdrew from the action following treatment after 31 minutes of the opening Premier Reserve League game, which finished 0-0. His frustration was clear to see as he was replaced by Chris Riley.
"I am very disappointed for Dean," reflected Development Coach Clive. "He had a bit of an Achilles problem and had an injection over the weekend that we were hoping would settle it down.
"It looks like it's flared up again and, obviously, we'll wait until we see the doctor on Thursday to make an assessment.
"He is bitterly disappointed - as you can imagine - and I'm just hoping it is not too serious."
