Our young midfielder is part of the Slovakia side which recovered from a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Brazil in their opening match to make it through the Group Stage, thanks to a 2-2 draw against Honduras and a 2-0 win over the tournament hosts.
Later today they face Uruguay in the Round of 16 and Filip, a regular player for our successful Under-18s side, will be hoping to carry on his fine form at the tournament, which has seen him play 90 minutes in each of his nation’s group games.
Filip’s side will be somewhat depleted, though, as they will be without Lukas Haraslin, who has picked up two yellow cards, and Jakub Gric, who was sent off in his side’s last match.
Opponents Uruguay, meanwhile, will not be short on confidence after they came from behind to beat Italy in their final Group B encounter to ensure they finished top of their section.
Slovakia will also have to tighten up at the back. They conceded eight goals in the Group Stage – more than any other side left in the last 16 of this competition.
Once again, we wish Filip all the best for the match.
