Our recruit from East Fife, recently returned from a thigh injury, lined up with the dynamic duo against Fulham on Monday night and the company he was keeping certainly put a spring in his step.
"Sergei is a player you can rely with the ball at his feet," purred Fergie. "You know when to make a run off him and he'll deliver the goods.
"I enjoyed playing off Steffen Iversen too. It is such an experience playing with these kind of players. Obviously Simon Davies is always good to link up with.
"The main thing for me is playing games again, not playing games gets you down a bit and it's hard to get your form back."
It was put to the young Scot that Rebrov, Iversen and Ferguson as a striking trio sort of rolls off the tounge.
"Don't know about the last one there - but the first two yes."
Fergie sustained his thigh injury in a training ground practice match against QPR in early October. It has been a frustrating wait, but he is now seeking to sharpen up and prepare for a possible loan move to further his experience.
"It's good to be back. I have felt disappointed with the injuries and it's great to be back now, playing games and getting involved.
"Maybe a long move could be possible, I fancy that, I spoke to John Gorman and he said he want me out on loan, but wants me to play a couple of games first - we'll see what happens.
"My thigh went straight away in the QPR game. I came back three weeks ago and then got an ear infection so I missed a reserve game. I've played the last two, got my pace back, and it's good to be playing again."
Steven Ferguson is thriving on the opportunity to hone his striking skills alongside Sergei Rebrov and Steffen Iversen in the reserves.
