I've had my operation and the good news is that it's only the cruciate ligament ruptured. Everything else around the knee is okay.
That is much, much better to have the chance to come back without problems because if the whole knee is injured it is much more difficult.
I can walk without crutches, I can drive, I feel much better and I am now very happy.
The doctor said the surgery went well and now I am on the way back. It is a long journey but I have started. The worst is done because the first 10 days after the surgery is hard. It was hard to sleep but I can sleep better now.
I am now looking at six months out. That is the time we start pre-season. I won't put myself under pressure but if it is possible to start with the team in pre-season it is the perfect time to return.
It is hard work, of course, but there is not so much pressure. You can stop for a game, or a training session, relax for a day and have treatment.
If the season has started and you are fit then you might have to play and that is dangerous because I would have been out for a long time. That is why you have to be careful.
I know that the hard work starts now. There is not a chance to come back earlier. Six months is the quickest time and that is without problems, complications, reactions.
If all goes well I will then I have a chance for next season. That would be nice but of it takes longer then, okay, I had the same injury and I know what is coming.
Of course, the best news when I was away was the win against Chelsea. I was in America and it was wonderful news for me. What a game! I would have loved to have been there but what news.
Funnily enough, it is the same story the last time I injured my cruciate. That time with Germany we went on to reach the Euro 96 final and won it. I think we can do the same. I will be at the final and I'm confident we can go onto Europe.
First of all, it is nice to be back writing my diary for the website and I would like to thank everyone who has passed on their good wishes to me.
