Young strikers taste League Two action

Tue 24 January 2017, 11:50|Tottenham Hotspur

Development squad strikers Shayon Harrison and Ryan Loft have found themselves quickly thrust into action after linking up with Yeovil Town and Stevenage in League Two this month.

Shayon, who appeared for our first team in the fourth round of the EFL Cup at Liverpool in October, joined Yeovil on Friday (January, 20) and stepped off the bench for his league debut in the 77th minute of his side’s 2-2 draw at Blackpool 24 hours later.

Fellow front man Ryan, meanwhile, has appeared as a second-half substitute in all three of Stevenage’s matches since he linked up with the Hertfordshire side – a 3-1 home win over Newport County followed by away defeats to Plymouth Argyle (4-2) and, on Saturday, Hartlepool United (2-0).

Elsewhere, attacking midfielder Will Miller (pictured, below) started for Burton Albion in their big FA Cup tie at Watford on January 7 but was forced off injured shortly after the half-hour mark.

Goalkeeper Luke McGee, meanwhile, has endured a rollercoaster few weeks with Peterborough United. After consecutive 1-1 draws with Coventry City and Scunthorpe United in League One, the young stopper was part of the Posh side that visited Premier League leaders Chelsea in one of the most intriguing ties of the FA Cup third round earlier this month. There was to be no upset, though, as the Blues won 4-1, with Peterborough subsequently suffering a shock 5-1 loss at League One strugglers Bury. However, Luke kept a clean sheet to help his team return to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph at Swindon Town on Saturday (January 21).

In Italy, defender Federico Fazio’s fine run with Roma has continued this month with three consecutive 1-0 wins in Serie A against Genoa, Udinese and Cagliari, with a 4-0 home win over Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia also included in their successful spell.
