Loan round-up - goals for young duo

Connor Ogilvie and Luke Amos have been on target for their respective clubs during another busy spell for our players out on loan.

Left-back Connor, who has featured regularly for Gillingham in League One this season, opened his Gills account with a header in their 2-1 defeat at Bury on 24 February. Unfortunately he missed out on facing Spurs Development Squad team-mate Anton Walkes when his side visited Portsmouth on 10 March because of illness, while snow put paid to Gillingham’s latest fixture at home to Blackburn Rovers. The Gills are currently 12th in the table.

Central midfielder Luke, meanwhile, netted his second goal for Stevenage to open the scoring at Port Vale last Saturday but after his side went 2-0 up, they ended up drawing 2-2 in what turned out to be the last game in charge for manager Darren Sarll. Luke has been ever-present in the starting line-up of late for the Hertfordshire club, who are 16th in League Two.

Anton has also played every game at right-back for Pompey in League One since linking up with them in January, with Kenny Jackett’s men five points off the play-offs in eighth after last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Oldham.

Elsewhere in that division, Shayon Harrison has been featuring on the left side of attacking midfield for Southend United in recent weeks, starting in a 3-0 home defeat by Walsall and goalless away draw at Rochdale and coming off the bench for the last 10 minutes of another stalemate at home to Doncaster. He was an unused substitute in a 1-1 draw at Blackpool last weekend, a result that left his side 13th in the table, two points behind Connor’s Gillingham.

There have been mixed fortunes for our trio of players on loan in the Championship, though. Attacking midfielder Marcus Edwards appeared in a matchday squad for Norwich City for the first time on Saturday, remaining an unused substitute in a 3-2 home win over Reading that leaves the Canaries level with Cameron Carter-Vickers’ Ipswich Town in mid-table on 52 points, 10 points off the play-offs. Centre-back Cameron has remained ever-present for Ipswich over the last few weeks but has seen his side suffer back-to-back defeats at home to Hull City (3-0) and away to Bristol City (1-0) over the last fortnight.

At Aston Villa, having played 90 and 60 minutes respectively in a 1-1 home draw with Preston North End and 4-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday, midfielder Josh Onomah has been an unused substitute for the last four games. Villa are currently fourth, seven points off the automatic promotion places.

Over in Australia, goalkeeper Tom Glover has remained an unused substitute in Central Coast Mariners’ recent outings in the A-League.
