Our combative midfielder, outstanding so far this season, badly twisted his knee as he went into a challenge with Chelsea's Frank Lampard after just 30 minutes of Wednesday night's Worthington Cup semi-final first leg at Stamford Bridge.
The 30-year-old immediately signalled to the bench and was stretchered off in some discomfort.
"It's not looking too good actually," said boss Glenn with some concern last night. "He's twisted his knee and we won't know the damage until he has a scan on Thursday. But it doesn't look good."
We will bring you more news of the injury as soon as we have it.
Glenn Hoddle will wait anxiously for the results of scans on Steffen Freund's injured right knee today.
