FC Sheriff 0-2 Spurs - Andre's delight for JD

Andre Villas-Boas described Jermain Defoe's equalling of Martin Chivers' European goals record for the club as a 'great achievement'.

Andre congratulates Jermain at the final whistleJermain lets fly for European goal number 22

Jermain hit the target from 25 yards to make it 2-0 against FC Sheriff in Thursday night’s Europa League, Group K encounter. Earlier, Jan Vertonghen headed home the opener from Christian Eriksen's cross on 12 minutes.

As well as securing victory on a tough night in Moldova and taking us to nine points from three group games, JD took his European tally to 22, matching legendary ‘Big Chiv’s’ total.

It was quickly pointed out that with three group games still remaining, there is every chance Jermain will take the mantle of our greatest European goalscorer sooner rather than later.

Andre said: “It’s a great achievement, an achievement that will hopefully be celebrated even more if he overtakes Martin.

“Jermain has done well in this competition so far, scored four goals now and I’m sure in these next three fixtures he’ll get the chance to overtake Martin.”
