We take on the Blues in the first leg of our FA Youth Cup semi-final at our world-famous stadium – and with the match being televised live, our youngsters will have a large audience watching them.
For Under-18s Coach Kieran, tonight’s match represents a different test to what the lads usually face in league competition.
And, ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off, he has underlined how this sort of experience is key to the players’ development.
“For the boys to play in front of a crowd, in a pressurised situation, live on TV against a really good Chelsea side is exactly the sort of test we want them to encounter,” he said.
“This is the level we want them to perform at, to see how they cope with the pressures and challenges it brings.
“Obviously the aim of every game we go into is to win, although within that we will always stick to the principles of how we want to play and of our own youth development philosophy.
“It’s so valuable for the young lads to play in this environment and they want to win the game and reach the final. Anything other than that, they’ll be disappointed.”
