'Fantastic honour' - Michael

Michael Dawson watched events unfold against Inter Milan from the sidelines – now he’s ready to lead the team out for another glory, glory night against AC Milan on Wednesday.

The contrast of emotions between the ties against the Italian giants couldn’t be different for the popular defender.

Back in November, injury meant he was restricted to a place on the home bench, sitting out one of the great European nights as we toppled reigning champions Inter 3-1 at the Lane.

Back in the side at the turn of the year, Michael led by example as we won the Champions League last 16, first leg 1-0 at the San Siro and he's now pride personified as he prepares to follow in the footsteps of the great Spurs captains– the likes of Blanchflower, Mullery, Perryman and Roberts - on great European nights at the Lane.

“It will be a fantastic honour to lead the team out but it’s not about me, it’s about the 11 players out there, the 18 men in the squad and we’ve all got a job to do,” said Michael.

“Hopefully we can continue where we left off in Milan because that was a fantastic performance.

“The lads worked their socks off to get our rewards that night and we’re in a great position going into this second leg. We know the crowd will be right behind us and we know what we’ve got to do.

“We’re 1-0 up but we can’t sit on that, we’ll do what we do and that’s attack. We’ve got pace in the team and we’ll look to put them on the back foot and try to score goals.

“We can’t be over-confident. We’re playing AC Milan in the Champions League. It’s a massive club with great players. We have to be ready and we will be.”
