We travel to Borough for our first friendly tonight where summer recruits Gus Poyet and Goran Bunjevcevic are expected to make debuts.
Fairclough insisted: "There is always a buzz playing a top team but we look at it from a different way to the supporters. It is a vital part of our pre-season preparations."
Borough have been installed as pre-season title favourites for the Nationwide Conference title and FA Trophy.
"I'm not quite sure what they have based it on,” commented Fairclough.
"Rather than our final position last year, they must have taken other things into consideration like the fact this is mine and Kevin's (Hales) second year in charge.
"It can work either way for us. It makes us one of the big boys and the team
others want to beat. But it does give the lads a presence and shows we are a team to be watched."
Borough could have up to six debutants, including new striker Martin Williams.
Another new signing, Leon Smith, will miss the match through injury, while longer term worry Darran Hay and Neil Illman are doubtful.
Fairclough expects to rotate his troops, adding: "It's so early in the season that I wouldn't envisage anyone having a full 90 minutes."
Demand for tickets has understandably been high, with club administrator Roger Austin predicting a near 6,500 capacity crowd.
Stevenage Borough boss Paul Fairclough will stay focused on his team’s pre-season preparations despite the natural air of excitement surrounding our visit to Broadhall Way.
