FA responds to Virgin

Posted on 15 March 2001 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Football Association spokesman Paul Newman has responded on behalf of the governing body to Virgin Train’s claims that the FA Cup semi-final at Old Trafford will be a logistical nightmare.
The rail company revealed that there will only be one train available to take fans from London Euston to Manchester, due to unavoidable engineering works - and it's already fully-booked.
Chris Green of Virgin said of the fixture: "This really is a bad idea. Unless an alternative venue is found we are facing a logistical nightmare and one which I can see no way around."
Newman countered: "Nothing will change as a result of what Virgin Trains have said. Gone are the days when you can rely on the train companies to help you out and lay on 15 trains for a big sporting event.
"It is for Virgin Trains to explain why only two trains, even without the engineering works, would be available. Nothing is going to change, irrespective of what they say. There was no suitable alternative in London.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
