#ExtraordinarySpurs: Tottenham Hotspur Disabilities Centre of Excellence - Daryl's story

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is celebrating a decade of creating opportunities that change lives and today we bring you the latest in a series of features taking a look at some of the Club’s extraordinary yet often unseen work in its community.

Here we learn about Daryl, a young student with autism who attends regular sessions at the Tottenham Hotspur Disabilities Centre of Excellence, delivered by the Foundation in partnership with Barnet and Southgate College.

The centre provides specialist education facilities dedicated to the specific needs of students with complex learning and physical disabilities. Foundation staff deliver a combination of education and sport sessions as well as bespoke training and enterprise programmes to a range of organisations – including Oakleigh Special School where Daryl attends.

The weekly sessions involving the specialist sensory and rebound therapy rooms have allowed Daryl to engage more confidently than ever before with pupils and staff, making a huge difference to his life.

Nikita, Daryl’s teacher at Oakleigh School, said: “The specialist sessions run by John at the Foundation have been amazing for Daryl and we’re able to see the full benefit from using these brilliant facilities.

“As a result of the individual attention John provides, Daryl’s behaviour has improved continuously and it’s great to see how much enjoyment he gets from taking part.”
