#ExtraordinarySpurs: Prisoner mentoring - Myton's story

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is celebrating a decade of creating opportunities that change lives and today we bring you the latest in a series of features taking a look at some of the Club’s extraordinary yet often unseen work in its community.

Here we meet Myton, 20, who was serving a custodial sentence before being referred to the Foundation for a mentoring programme designed to help reintegrate young offenders back into society.

The Club helped Myton through a difficult period in his life and found him an apprenticeship at a railway maintenance firm upon release.

Myton said: “When I went to prison I was isolated and lost confidence, while my hopes of finding a career faded.

“My mentor Kieran was the one who stuck by me, helping me into my current role and thanks to him I’m now looking forward to the future.”

The Prisoner Mentoring programme provides support for young offenders coming towards the end of their custodial sentences, with a mentor making weekly visits to prisons for one-to-one sessions. Individuals are then given careers advice and further mentoring upon release to help them successfully reintegrate back into society and secure work.
