Joe Jordan was quick to praise the role of the more experienced players at PAOK.
While most of the attention was focused on the likes of Tom Carroll, Harry Kane and debutant Yago Falque it was left to Carlo Cudicini, Sebastien Bassong, Vedran Corluka and Roman Pavlyuchenko to help see the youngsters through as our Group A opener of the Europa League ended in a goalless draw in Greece.
“We can’t forget the experienced lads,” reflected Joe at the Toumba Stadium. “The younger lads had to rely on them and the mix was good.
“The two centre-halves were exceptional, Gio as well, every one of them.
“You’ve got to have that experience in the team, no matter where you go, but especially here with a full house.
“The young lads had those wise words around them, putting them in positions, coaxing them along, knowing the certain periods of the game where you have to cool it and keep possession or try to lift the tempo.
“I’m sure they will be thankful for the lessons passed on by those more experienced players."
