Heurelho Gomes insists fans have seen just a glimpse of what fellow countryman and close friend Sandro has to offer.
The midfielder was outstanding in both legs of our Champions League, Round of 16 victory over AC Milan – protecting the back four as we held onto our 1-0 first leg lead in the return game at the Lane on Wednesday.
It was only Sandro’s ninth start since arriving at the Club from Internacional in late August – but Gomes feels the 21-year-old is already up to speed with the English game.
And now the goalkeeper is anticipating a bright future ahead for his fellow Brazilian international, while praising the rest of our defence in making sure we advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League.
Gomes said: “Sandro’s been great for us and was unbelievable for us again on Wednesday. In our previous game against Wolves he also played great, as he did in Milan and at Sunderland recently.
“He’s learning quickly, which is good for him. He’s still young, only 21 years old, and he can do so much more for us, believe you me.
“The whole defence worked so hard for the victory – they were unbelievable. Every one of the back four and Sandro in front of them.
“We did great because kept two clean sheets in two games against Milan, now we have to move on and keep going like that.”
On the achievement as a whole, Gomes added: “This is a dream for everyone here. The team is improving with every game in every competition and we deserve it because we’ve worked so hard.”
