Jermaine Jenas is delighted with our pre-season form and now cannot wait to get his teeth into the Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament, which we kick off tonight against Celtic.
After two impressive friendly wins this week in which the team seems to be reaping the benefits of their two-week Spanish training camp, the midfielder believes a competition like this is exactly what we need to test ourselves on the next level.
And with the way a new-look attacking midfield - in which JJ is an integral part - playing the way it is at the moment, he believes we are more than capable of taking on the likes of the Scottish champions.
JJ, who attended the official launch of the tournament at Feyenoord's De Kuip Stadium, said: "We're looking really confident as a team overall with the new players settling in well.
"The way we've been playing of late really suits my game because I can bomb on forward and there's no rigidness to the midfield.
"As a whole, we're playing well - but it only matters if we do so at Middlesbrough on the opening day of the season. However, it's great to get confidence levels up.
"Now we come into this tournament and I believe playing against this level of opposition at this stage of pre-season is exactly what we need.
"The football will be as intense as it can get for friendlies and we'll be up against quality players who can keep the ball and we'll have to work really hard."
Joining JJ in the midfield tonight could be our latest signing and England team-mate David Bentley.
"Bents will bring in a lot of quality. He's got two good feet, a good football brain and he's a great deliverer of the ball," JJ added.
"He'll give his heart and soul to this Club and I know he can't wait to put on the shirt and play."
