Rewards will come - Toby

Posted on 30 August 2015  - 13:45

Toby Aldeweireld left the Lane for international duty on Saturday night unequivocal in his belief that our points tally will soon mirror our performances.

The Belgian defender was also clear that we deserved to beat Everton after knocking on the door but failing to beat in-form Tim Howard as it ended goalless between the teams for the first time in N17 in almost 20 years.

Howard made six saves including tipping over Toby’s header in the first half as we registered 20 attempts at goal - Ryan Mason, Harry Kane, Nabil Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli and Jan Vertonghen all tried their luck without reward.

“This was our best game,” said Toby. “We had control, created a lot of chances and now we have to take that into the next game and try to win.

“We played well, defensively we were good but unfortunately we couldn’t score. If we get a bit of luck it’s 1-0 and a totally different game. We tried and tried and were a little unlucky.

“We have to be confident in how we’re playing and if we play every game like this, the points will come.”

Toby is in the Belgian squad with Jan, Nacer and Mousa Dembele for Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia and Cyprus on Thursday and Sunday week (September 6). However, Mousa picked up a foot injury against Everton.
