Everton have yet to lose at Goodison Park in the Premier League in 2013 but we started impressively and forced Roberto Martinez’s men onto the back foot.
However, a dominant first half display didn’t translate into clear-cut chances - Andros Townsend and Sandro tested Tim Howard and Roberto Soldado went close twice.
Everton stepped up a gear in the second half. Romelu Lukaku headed just wide and Ross Barkley fizzed over, but we defended stoutly.
Momentum changed again in the latter stages as Gyfi Sigurdsson and Townsend tested Howard again, Sigurdsson fired just wide and Christian Eriksen’s free-kick somehow evaded everyone in the box.
“We had a very good first half where we pressed excellently and could have gone on to score from one of those situations,” said Andre.
“We tried to continue this spirit in the second half but Sandro got injured after 60 minutes, we had to make changes that made it difficult for us. That was the only moment that Everton really had a go at us.
"It's difficult to play here, so to play well and achieve a point is quite satisfying. It was a fair result and a good point for us.”
The point lifed us into fourth in the table, level on points with Chelsea in second and Liverpool in third.
“It was important for us to stay in touch with the group at the top, particularly against an opponent that has the same objective as us,” added Andre.
