And the flying full-back adds that we have to look to win as many of our remaining 11 Premiership fixtures as possible starting with Fulham at the Lane on Monday night.
"We have to get into Europe. It's a must," said Steve. "We've gone out of the two cups early and that's not good for anyone, but there is no excuse of fatigue or tiredness setting in. We've 11 games left now and we have to look at winning as many as possible."
We're sitting seventh in the Premiership after beating Sunderland 4-1 last time out, just a point behind Liverpool in sixth and three adrift of Everton in fifth.
"It's probably the best position we've found ourselves in for the last couple of seasons in regards of being close to the top," Steve pointed out. "It's very close but that's the way the league is this season.
"It's a good position and we have to move on. We play Fulham next and every home game we have to win.
"Away games are different, you still go out with the mentality of trying to win them but it's very hard to win away games.
"We had a good win against Sunderland last week even I don't think we played that well, but we now have to look for another three points if we want to move up to the next stage of qualifying for Europe."
Stephen Carr insists qualifying for Europe is a must this season.
