Our Under-18s claimed fifth place at the Eurofoot international tournament on Sunday after a resounding 4-0 play-off victory over Standard Liege.
Alex Inglethorpe's side did not qualify for the semi-final stage after a win, a draw, and a decisive defeat in their Saturday games.
But goals from Coskun Ekim (pictured right), Kudos Oyenuga, Chace O'Neil and Cameron Lancaster in Sunday's victory ended the weekend on a positive note.
The lads had gone into Saturday sitting joint second in Group A, and come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw in their first game with Gent.
Things were looking good after a 2-0 victory over Willem II in their second match, meaning victory over group leaders Anderlecht in their final game of the day would have taken them into Sunday's semis.
But a cross that took a wicked deflection and found its way into our net meant defeat against the Belgians, and no repeat of the two finals we have reached at this competition in the last two years.
Nonetheless, coach Alex reflected: "Although we reached the final last year, I felt we were probably better on this occasion overall.
"We just lacked that little bit of luck at crucial times and were made to pay for the errors we did make.
"But on the whole, I'm delighted with some of the younger players, for many of whom this was their first tournament experience, and they set a very high standard for themselves."
