Euro 2016 - Ben's boys in dreamland, Belgians bow out

Posted on 1 July 2016  - 22:08

Ben Davies helped Wales reach their first ever major tournament semi-final with a dramatic 3-1 victory over a Belgium side that included Toby Alderweireld at Euro 2016 on Friday night (July 1).

Defender Ben was on duty as usual as his side recovered from conceding to Radja Nainggolan with a thunderous long-range strike to turn the quarter-final tie around in Lille.

Ashley Williams, Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes got the goals that sent Wales through, although Ben’s night was tinged with frustration as he picked up his second booking of the tournament in the first period, meaning he’ll be suspended for his nation’s semi-final clash with Portugal on Wednesday night in Lyon.

More disappointed, though, was our Belgian contingent as their run in the competition came to an end. Toby played the full game once more at the heart of a depleted Red Devils back line while Mousa Dembele remained an unused substitute. Jan Vertonghen missed the game after picking up an injury this week.

The next action involving one of our players at Euro 2016 comes on Sunday night, as Hugo Lloris and France take on Iceland, kick-off 8pm UK time.
