Etherington in reserve

Posted on 6 January 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Matthew Etherington and Alton Thelwell return from injury for our reserve side to take on Wimbledon at Kingstonian FC this evening, kick-off 7pm.

Matty has been out since mid-November with bone bruising on his ankle, while Alton has been plagued by groin problems all season.

Both feature in the team to face the Dons in the first competitive reserve outing since the middle of December. Coach Colin Calderwood insists, however, that there has been little in the way of a break for the players.

"We've had a two and a half week break, but the boys have trained for the majority of that," reported Colin.

"Wimbledon will be a test, they are always very, very organised - usually quite athletic. They gave us a good pasting down there last season. We know when we go there that we'll get a proper game of football.

"So if we're not up for it, or we don't compete, we know we'll get turned over again. It's all about attitude."

Johnnie Jackson and Lee Barnard make their first starts since returning from loan spells at Swindon and Exeter respectively. Dean Marney is currently out on loan at Swindon.

Squad: Sullivan, Henry, Thelwell, Gardner, Doherty, Jackson, Sherwood, Blondel, Ricketts, Etherington, Barnard, Kelly, Slabber, O'Donoghue, Hughes, Bowditch, Galbraith.
