Eriksen's delight

Christian Eriksen has spoken of his delight after opening his goalscoring account for us in sensational style against Tromso IL on Thursday night.

The Danish international, who came off the bench to replace Mousa Dembele in the second period, lashed into the top corner from long range to complete a 3-0 victory in the Europa League Group Stage opener, after Jermain Defoe’s first half double had put us in control.

It was only Christian’s second appearance in our colours following his summer move from Ajax – and the 21-year-old was beaming after the game.

“I’m really happy about it. A goal like that in just my second game is something I can only dream of,” he said.

“A goal like that is not often something that happens in a game, more often in training! I was happy to see it go in.

“We scored at the most important moments. Jermain’s goals in the first half really took the pressure off. That made it easy for us.”

Christian admitted he’s still settling down in the UK following his summer transfer – but after following up on his sparkling performance against Norwich City last weekend with Thursday night’s goal, he says he’s quickly getting used to his new surroundings.

“I’m still in a hotel at the moment – perhaps I should stay there!” he joked. “I’m really excited to be here, it’s a great club, nice team-mates and everything is going well.”

Christian is now keen to build on a fantastic week as we travel to Cardiff City on Sunday in the Premier League.

The Bluebirds have strengthened since their promotion from the Championship last term, and Christian knows we’re in for a difficult game.

“I read all about Cardiff because there is a Danish player there (Andreas Cornelius). Unfortunately he’s injured at the moment, but they have a lot of new players and they want to build something to stay in the Premier League, so it’s a tough place to play.”
