Jan's plan and Coco's right foot - Vertonghen, Eriksen, Lamela on Swansea

Sun 18 March 2018, 09:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen underlined three areas as the key to our resounding FA Cup quarter-final win at Swansea.

All three were delivered in a commanding performance as Christian Eriksen's double and a goal from Erik Lamela saw us home 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Captain on the day, Jan said: "We knew we were going to see a lot of the ball so the key was to play with a high tempo, stay focused at the back and score.

"We did those three things."

Here's what Jan, Christian and Erik Lamela had to say after the game...

Overall thoughts...
"It was a good performance. We started well, controlled the game and scored at the right times, early and again just before half-time, perfect. They had one or two chances, especially when Michel made the double save at the start of the second half, that was important for us, but we deserved this win."

On Christian's cracking opening goal...
"Christian can score goals like that. He had a great strike after that as well that hit the crossbar. He had a magnificent game and was rewarded for it. He drops a little deeper into midfield and with his passing, he can be vital for us."

Overall thoughts...
"We had plenty of possession straight from the kick-off. We had to keep the ball moving and try to create chances. They dropped deep and gave us the possibility to have a lot of possession. The timing of the goal was very good. The goal opened up the game and gave us relaxation going into the rest of the first half."

On Erik 'Coco' Lamela's goal for 2-0 just before half-time...
"Coco's goal really killed it off. It was with his right foot as well! He normally doesn’t use his right foot for anything but standing on. It caught the goalkeeper out. It was a very good goal."

Overall thoughts...
"We played well, we managed the ball all the time and we played a very good game. Christian’s was a great goal, a great strike and it helped us to open up the game. That was important. We played the game how we wanted to from there."
