Eric Dier’s equaliser just before half-time cancelled out Kevin De Bruyne’s opener for the visitors, who sat top of the league prior to the weekend’s action.
But goals from Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela saw us pull away after the interval and register a comfortable 4-1 win – a result that our Danish international midfielder revelled in afterwards.
“It feels really good to win like that!” beamed Christian, whose free-kick cannoned back off the woodwork and presented Harry with the opportunity to grab our third goal on the day – his first of the season at club level.
“The first half was a bit difficult, they created a lot of chances and we had to fight a lot, but luckily we bounced back just before half-time and the second half was our game.
“It’s always good to recover from going behind – we’ve tried a few times before when the opposition has scored before us, but we know we have the strength and quality to come back and we showed a lot of character today.
“We always create a lot of chances but it’s just about getting the ball over the line. Today we had a little bit of luck that we needed and that gave us the confidence to keep going for another goal and another.”
Christian also saluted our defensive efforts against a fearsome Manchester City front line – but insisted it wasn’t just the back four that ensured we kept Manuel Pellegrini’s side at arm’s length.
“The defenders showed who they are and what they’re capable of, but it was the whole team defending, not only the four at the back,” added the 23-year-old.
“We showed that we’re ready to work for each other and overall I think we demonstrated what we’re capable of, so hopefully we can continue this now.”
