The full-back, just back from a head injury, beat Villa's Olof Mellberg and Alexander Ostlund from Swedish side Hammarby to the award.
Back at Spurs Lodge this week, Erik said: "It's been a good year for me. It all started at Heerenven, we reached the UEFA Cup and then onto Portugal where we had a nice tournament and now to be able to play at Tottenham."
Mathias Bridfelt, press officer of our Swedish Supporters Club 'Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Sweden' (THSS) was at the awards and reported that the jury commented on Erik: "He might become the best Swedish full-back ever. A sensitive left foot, the perfection in his crosses and hi defensive work. Maybe the best left full-back of all in Euro 2004."
Erik actually provided the cross for one of the best goals of the summer tournament as Henrik Larsson flew through the air to connect with a diving header in Sweden's 5-0 thrashing of Bulgaria.
He recalled: "It was our opening game, the cross felt great and the finish was superb, it was a great goal."
