The Argentine forward grabbed the headlines with a first half hat-trick as we put Monaco to the sword in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Erik wrapped up his treble inside 40 minutes - our first, first half trio since Les Ferdinand against Bolton in 2001 – as we topped Group J in style.
But his attention immediately turned to the Toon, even with the signed matchball under his arm after the game on Thursday night.
“We can enjoy this win (against Monaco) but we need to think about Newcastle,” he said less than an hour after the final whistle.
“This is an important game for us as we try to keep it going in the Premier League.
“Newcastle played well against Liverpool and that will give them confidence but we need to keep going, keep working and try to do better.”
Erik is flourishing at the moment and his hat-trick made it seven goals in 18 appearances in all competitions this season.
“I can’t (don’t like to) speak about myself but yes, I’m feeling good,” he added. “I want to say ‘thanks’ to my team-mates because they always help me. I’m happy and I can do better.”
