The attacking midfielder found the net shortly before half-time in our eventual 2-2 draw on the south coast back in April for what was only his second ever Premier League strike.
Of course, Erik has been in good form in front of goal this term, plundering five in as many games in the Europa League plus two on the domestic scene.
After the disappointment of our last-gasp home defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, the 23-year-old says he’d love to hit the target once more against Ronald Koeman’s charges but has underlined how his main priority is ensuring we add three more points to our Premier League tally.
“My goal at Southampton (pictured, below) is a good memory but it’s in the past now,” said Erik, last week’s hat-trick hero against Monaco.
“Now we need to think about Southampton again and we need to win this weekend. I hope I can score again, in the last game (against Newcastle) I didn’t score but this is another game and I need to be focused to help the team.
“We are still working for a couple more days before the game but when we go there I hope that we can take the points.”
The Saints are without a win in five matches in all competitions ahead of Saturday’s fixture and, with that in mind, Erik knows they’ll be equally as determined as we are to return to winning ways.
“We are disappointed with the last game because of the final result but we are confident that we can change our luck against Southampton,” he added.
“We know it’s a difficult game, we know them and we’re aware that they are a very good team, but we are a good team as well so hopefully we can enjoy a good match.”
