Eric Dier wants us to be quick out of the blocks against Newcastle United on Sunday.

We’re without a Premier League win since beating West Ham United 4-1 on November 22, having shared the spoils with both Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion over the last fortnight.

The Magpies come into this weekend’s contest with renewed confidence after their 2-0 victory over Liverpool last time out.

But as we get set for our second home game of the week following our 4-1 win over Monaco in the Europa League, Eric says we must start as we mean to go on against Steve McClaren’s men – much like we did on Thursday night.

“It’s really important that we win this game,” said the 21-year-old. “I think we have to start strong like we did against Monaco, try to be on the front foot straight from the off and kill any momentum Newcastle may have from last week.

“We want to win every game so it would be great to get three points at the Lane and try to climb up the table. I think it helps as well that it’s a second home game in a row for us so we’ve got a great chance.

“We just have to make sure we play well so we can start turning draws into wins.”
