We meet the Azerbaijani side for the second time this season in Baku knowing a win would be sufficient to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League with a game to spare.
Having triumphed 3-1 against the same opponents on matchday one and boosted by Sunday’s big win over West Ham, the lads head into the game in buoyant mood.
But Eric insists we’re taking nothing for granted against a side that’s taken four points from a possible six at home – beating Anderlecht and drawing with Monaco – so far in Group J.
“They’re a very good side and you can never underestimate a team in the Europa League,” said our newest England international.
“We saw in the first game against them that everyone’s very good, they stick to their identity and try to play their football so credit to them for that.
“Obviously it’s going to be a very tough game with the long-distance flight thrown in as well, but it’s always a boost when you get the win beforehand so we just need to make sure we do everything right now.
“We’ll be looking to get the result because, of course, it would be massive to get a win and put ourselves through in the group. That’s really important for us.”
