Eric earns first England call-up

Eric Dier has earned his first call-up to the senior England squad, joining Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker in the ranks for this month’s friendlies against Spain and France.

Versatile 21-year-old Eric, who has started all our matches in all competitions this season – barring the home draw with Liverpool for which he was suspended – in a defensive midfield role, steps up to the senior side having earned nine caps at Under-21 level to date.

He is joined in the squad by midfielder Dele, who made his senior England bow last month, earning two caps against Estonia and Lithuania, plus Harry, who has scored three times in six senior appearances, and Kyle, capped 12 times to date.

The Three Lions will visit Spain on Friday, November 13, before hosting France at Wembley on Tuesday, November 17.

Elsewhere, Harry Winks is set for a double-header against France with England Under-20s, while fellow midfielder Josh Onomah and full-back Kyle Walker-Peters have been named in the England Under-19s squad for matches against the Netherlands and Japan.

Meanwhile, youngsters Japhet Tanganga, Jaden Brown and Samuel Shashoua will link up with England Under-17s for two matches against Germany in the coming weeks.
