Our Argentinian full-back was at a low ebb as injury problems ruled him out of action for eight months between September 2000 and May this year.
However, Stephen Carr's knee injury handed 'Tano' the opportunity to start the season in a right wing-back role and it's a chance he's grabbed with both hands.
Looking stronger and fitter with every game, Mauricio says the players are thoroughly enjoying the passing game under Glenn Hoddle.
"The style of football we're playing suits me," said Mauricio. "That's why I'm enjoying it.
"I think of myself as a passing player, not one-on-one, or very quick or very strong, I'm just trying to get hold of the ball and pass it around. That's the style we are playing now. You can everyone is enjoying it because we are dominating games.
"We all try to keep possession, movement and intelligent play from Teddy, Gus, Les, he's been outstanding, it creates space and myself and Christian try to join in and suddenly space is created and we can punish teams and score goals.
"When you play well and keep possession it's great for defenders. We don't have to defend them. We get into great areas and at times we were magnificent against Derby. They couldn't get the ball off us. We enjoy it and the fans enjoy it.
"I know we didn't have the best results against Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea but especially against Liverpool, we went up there and passed the ball, got hold of them, they had a great shot and we got beat but that happens.
"In my opinion, when you play good football you will win more games than you lose.
"In time, we all want to win trophies and do well, go higher up the league. But I believe the first thing is to play well and results will come with it."
The smile is certainly back on Mauricio Taricco's face - and he insists enjoyment is the phrase that pays at the moment.
