Paul Robinson could not deny Portugal as England, once again, suffered the heartbreak of a World Cup exit on penalties.

The game was goalless after 120 minutes with Robbo a confident and commanding figure throughout. The team in front of him were struggling to really pose a threat to the Portuguese defences until Aaron Lennon replaced the injured David Beckham on 51 minutes.

Aaron managed to put his opponents on the back foot, but drama followed when Wayne Rooney was shown a straight red card after 62 minutes. It was all about not conceding then and, although there were a couple of half-chances with Lennon heavily involved, penalties was always the likely outcome.

Portugal did miss two, but England only managed to beat the inspired Ricardo in the Portugal goal on one occasion and will therefore be soon be boarding a flight home.
