Poland had the better of it with Evans blocking smartly from Sebastian Mila in the 10th minute and Brozek 10 minutes later.
With play remaining untidy, England’s best chance fell to Jermaine Pennant two minutes before the break but his effort from just inside the box was saved by Tomasz Kuszcak.
The second half picked up where the first left off with passing movements at a premium. England started to enjoy the greater slice of possession though and substitute Jay Bothroyd ran almost the length of the field from a Poland corner before Marc Richards’ shot was deflected wide.
Expectancy levels rose every time Pennant got the ball and he produced a moment of magic after 68 minutes, cutting in from the right and leaving three defenders in his wake only to fluff his finish.
Visiting keeper Kuszcak blocked Richards’ shot from a tight angle after 76 minutes and at the other end, Lukasz Madej shot wide after a counter attack.
Further substitutions killed the flow of the game and although England shaded possession, a draw looked like being a fair outcome until Brozek's last-gasp heroics.
England: Evans, Richardson, Stewart, Jackson, Clarke, Lescott, Pennant, Nolan (Jenas 89), Richards, Ricketts (Knight 71), Hamshaw (Bothroyd HT).
Poland: Kuszcak, Rogalski (Wisio 74), Napieraln, Sierant (Zytko 80), Golanksi, Mila, Nawotczynski (Radler 80), Zawadzki, Madej, Brozek, Grzelak.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
