England call for Ben

Posted on 25 January 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ben Bowditch has been named in the England U19 squad for next month's friendly against Germany.

The 17-year-old takes his place in a 24-man squad for the clash, televised live by Sky Sports, at Ipswich Town's Portman Road.

The match is the ideal preparation for England as they build towards April’s two-leg play off against a dangerous-looking Lithuania side and coach Martin Hunter welcomes the test that lies ahead.

"When you play Germany, you know that it is always going to be a competitive game and that is exactly what we need at this stage in our preparation," he told TheFA.com.

"We are all hoping that the attractive nature of the game will draw a big crowd to get behind the boys at Ipswich."

Meanwhile, Academy goalkeeper Nicky Eyre joins the England Under-17 party for the forthcoming friendly encounter with Slovakia on February 13.

Dick Bate’s side are currently in a good run of form having defeated Poland 6-0 at Peterborough in their last home match before travelling to Portugal where they earned two highly creditable 1-1 draws against one of the top nations in youth football.
